Family Practice Physician - RESPONSIBILITIES (listed are included but not limited to)

  • The Family Practice Physician provides comprehensive physician services within the scope of privileges granted by the Military Treatment Facility (MTF).
  • Guide, instruct, or assist other healthcare professionals as allowed by clinical privileges and responsibilities.
  • Conduct patient examinations, diagnose conditions, administer treatments, and prescribe medications within trained capabilities and granted privileges.
  • Deliver preventive care, health maintenance services, and patient education, including annual physical, promotion of healthy behaviors, and self-care skills.
  • Order diagnostic tests as appropriate and refer or consult with relevant healthcare providers or resources as needed.
  • Demonstrate technical proficiency in supervising and teaching medical staff, conducting educational lectures, and participating in in-service training for clinic team members, adhering to professional standards.
  • The Family Practice Physician performs primary care exams for patients from neonatal to geriatric age groups.
  • Administer both primary care and administrative exams, such as Physical Readiness Test (PRT) waivers, Preventive Health Assessments (PHA), Sea Duty/Operational Screening exams, School and Sports physicals, Pap smears, and well-woman exams.
  • Recommend Sick-in-Quarters (SIQ) status or duty modifications for active-duty personnel as per MTF guidelines.
  • Diagnose and treat urgent and non-urgent illnesses and injuries affecting any organ or system in patients across all age ranges.
  • Prescribe medications as needed.
  • Manage referrals following MTF policies and protocols.
  • Document all referrals in the patient's medical record and in the MTF's automated data systems as per facility guidelines.
  • Provide initial response to medical emergencies within the clinic until relieved by the Medical Officer of the Day.
  • The Family Practice Physician identifies cases that exceed MTF capabilities and coordinate emergent transportation to suitable medical facilities.


Family Practice Physician - REQUIREMENTS

  • Education: Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.).
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years in a Family Practice setting within the past 5 years.
  • License: Current, unrestricted medical license to practice in any U.S. state.
  • Board Certification: Board eligibility required; board certification preferred. Acceptable boards include the American Board of Internal Medicine, American Board of Family Practice, American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine, or American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians.
  • Life Support Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications are mandatory.
