1. General: Physician, board certified or board eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine is needed for coverage of outpatient primary care services . Active license, American Heart BLS and outpatient experience within the last two years is required.
2. Scope:
The locum shall provide primary care to one of the system’s clinic locations. Physician shall perform all services commonly required in the primary care outpatient clinic setting.
· Workload occurs as a result of scheduled and unscheduled requirements for care
· Average patient volume ranges from 14-18 per 8 hour work day, with some occasional walk-ins
· Clinics’ Patient Aligned Care Teams are staffed with at least one other physician, mid-level practitioner, a RN care team, and administrative support staff
Contractor Physician's Tasks Include:
a. Initial evaluation and treatment of acute and chronic problems.
b. Providing ongoing primary care as a member of a Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT). Chronic medical problems commonly seen in the veteran population include such disorders as diabetes, hypertension, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, degenerative arthritis, depression, congestive heart failure, angina and pain. Judicious use of laboratory and x-ray services as well as appropriate referral and consultation is obtained.
c. All locum tenens physicians are appropriately credentialed and have received certification in basic cardiac life support.
d. Involved in continuous quality improvement through our peer review process.
e. Demonstrate appropriate delegation of tasks and duties in the direction and coordination of health care team members, patient care, and clinic activities.
f. Provide training and/or direction as applicable to supporting employees (e.g. RNs, LPNs, technicians, administrative support staff) assigned to the unit during the performance of duties. Such direction and interaction will adhere to government and professional clinical standards and accepted clinical protocol.
g. Attend /complete mandatory training requirements.
h. Participate in scheduled meetings to review and evaluate the services provided to patients, identify opportunities to improve the services delivered, and recommend corrective action when problems exist.
i. Perform necessary administrative duties, which include operation of VISTA/CPRS computerized electronic patient record.
j. Comply with information security policy and procedures.
