Practice Details

This is a unique section chief position that is expected to provide the overall physician/clinical direction wherever care for Veterans is provided in the community under VA auspices by contract or fee arrangement. This includes ensuring sound, clinical quality of care is rendered at the VABHHCS 9 outlying CBOCs (inclusive of contract and VA staffed), and within our partner systems that may include but are not limited to DoD, Indian Health Services, Tribal Health Services, and community hospitals. The physician section chief will work on a daily basis with the Primary and Specialty Care Line Community Based Care administrative officer, the contact liaison, and the ACN for the Community Based Care section. This physician will conduct routine reviews of our contract sites to ensure the expected quality of care is met. They will update the contract Statements of Work to fully encompass expectations as needed. The incumbent is expected to utilize video-tel and face to face visits to these community settings on a frequent basis in order to communicate VABHHCS goals and to foster negotiations and collaboration on care settings closer to home for our Veterans. The incumbent must have knowledge of the Joint Commission and OIG focus areas and pro-actively work with community partners to help them meet the standards. In order to accomplish this, they will also need to work routinely with all other services within VABH to ensure their support and attention for the staff in the community based care settings to successfully complete tasks and items such as credentialing, Personal Identity Verification badges, electronic medical record training, environment of care reviews, etc. The Community Based Care section chief will report directly to the Primary and Specialty Care leadership team made up of the physician ACOS primary and specialty care, the deputy nurse executive, and the Administrative officer for primary care. They are expected to meet regularly with the physician ACOS and/or the primary care leadership team to keep them abreast of issues related to the VABH community based care setting.
