Job Description
Schenectady is located 15 miles northwest of Albany, NY.
* New graduates will be considered.
* This is an approved site for the PSLF, DANY, and NHSC Loan Repayment Programs. HPSA score of 20.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The family or internal medicine physician provides acute, chronic, and preventative medical care to individuals and families from all life cycles, including pediatric, adolescent, perinatal, adult, and geriatric patients. They are ok with the physician seeing only ages 18 years and up.
This is an outpatient role caring for the underserved population.
There are 9 physicians on the team.
Call is done primarily by the NPs but physicians do participate on a limited basis.
See between 15 to 20 patients per day.
On-site, not telehealth. (a couple of admin hours can be done remotely)
Call is rotated. They do have a call service to screen calls, so it should be fairly light.
For weekend rotation, it averages every couple of months Friday to Sunday with the provider coming in on that Saturday from 9a-1p. Prior to working on Saturday you receive four hours off in exchange during the week.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Refers or admits patients with serious conditions to the hospital for inpatient care.
- Assesses patients and develops diagnostic and treatment plans. Educates patients and families.
- Orders appropriate laboratory, radiology, or other ancillary tests and interprets results.
- Orders/prescribes medications according to NYS law and monitors for efficacy and reactions.
- May perform minor surgical procedures (e.g. suturing, removal of skin lesions and cysts, incision and drainage) and certain GYN procedures (e.g. IUD insertion and removal) pending approval of privileges.
- Consults with and refers to specialists and ancillary staff as necessary.
- Completes medical records, correspondence, and forms in a timely manner as per protocols.
- Completes appropriate medical records flow sheets, problem lists, and medication lists.
- May participate in an after-hours call schedule shared with other physicians, PAs and NPs.
- Provides medical supervision to the assigned staff of nurses, NPs, PAs, and other medical support staff.
- Precepts medical students, residents and other students.
- Participates in QA/QI activities and assumes additional responsibilities as assigned by the CMO.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: Medical supervision of assigned nurses, NPs, PAs, and other support staff.
