The New Mexico VA Healthcare System (NMVAHCS), located in Albuquerque, New Mexico, is part of VA Desert Pacific Network (VISN22), comprised of eight health care system and 65 community clinics serving 1.5 million veterans in Arizona, New Mexico and Southern California which includes facilities in California, Nevada, and Hawaii.
Responsibilities
- Provides expertise in cardiovascular diseases and has significant experience in all aspects of interventional cardiology and related devices
- Provides support to the function of the outpatient Cardiology clinics, the inpatient consultation service, and the on-call requirement
- Responsible for the achievement of quality of care standards, efficiency, process improvement, and patient satisfaction surrounding Interventional Cardiology
- Expected to practice in accordance with professional standards, core values, and with a commitment to service excellence
- Expected to provide comprehensive patient care in the form of invasive, non-invasive, consultative, and inpatient/outpatient cardiology care
- Moderate Sedation Privileges and certification required
- Fluoroscopy privileges and certification
- Central venous line insertion and management
- Intra-arterial lines insertion and management
- Interpret EKGs
- Interpret holter monitors
- Cardioversion
- Use of thrombolytic agents
- Pericardiocentesis
- Arterial puncture
- Temporary trans venous pacemaker placement
- Intra-aortic balloon pump insertion and management
- Percutaneous coronary intervention, cardiac catheterization and angiography
- Peripheral arterial interventions
- Stress test interpretation
- Debulking devices including CSI atherectomy, rotablator, laser Angiojet for intervention for cardiovascular diseases
QUALIFICATIONS
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with facility policy
- Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine
- Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia
- Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification (e.g. ABIM)
- Proficiency in spoken and written English
- Preferred - Training and be proficient in peripheral arterial and venous interventions, management of venous and arterial disease, reading echoes, interpretation of peripheral vascular ultrasound and peripheral arterial physiologic studies and nuclear stress test
