DUTIES (include but not limited to) • Primary duty of the physician is to provide medical care at the Clinic. • The physician will be assigned a panel of patients and will deliver care using the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) model as the care delivery system. Panel size is determined by the facility using VHA standards. The provider will manage scheduled and unscheduled out-patients. • Alternative or collateral duties may include management of a subsection of primary care patients, the subsection may be defined either by a disease status (e.g. spinal cord injury patients), or demographic status (women veterans, OIF/OEF Veterans, employees etc.). Typically these duties are designated at the time of joining but occasionally during the course of the task order, participation in organizational initiatives, such as familiarization with telemedicine for patient care at our rural clinics. • Physicians are expected to provide clinical oversight and support for and review care provided by mid-level practitioners. • Providers will act as surrogates for their colleagues, providing care for the colleague's patients during short term absences. • Timely documentation of patient care, coding, encounter closures and administrative work is necessary in all areas in accordance with policy. Physicians must enter own notes, code their own patient visits, and encounters via Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS). Patient encounters are to be closed out within 24 hours of patient appointment date. The physicians should also be proficient in ICD-10 and provide evidence of training. Physicians will also require additional training in ICD-10 coding. Prohibited abbreviations will not be used. • Clinical reminders should be addressed and closed as medically appropriate. Quality of care will meet professional standards at all times and will be peer reviewed periodically by the care line medical director and the Medical Executive Board. • All physicians will work within their privileges at all times, unless necessitated by an emergency. QUALIFICATIONS • M.D. or D.O. • Must be board certified in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine and maintain professional competency. • Must have and maintain a current license to practice in any one of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam or the U.S. Virgin Islands that allows for the independent practice of clinical services. This license must be current (not revoked, suspended, or lapsed in registration), valid, and unrestricted. • Must have current DEA certificate. • Minimum experience required is one year VA experience (within the previous four (4) years) and minimum of five (5) years primary care experience. • Must have and maintain current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as certified by the American Heart Association.
